Kingman, Irish 2,000 Guineas winner, retired to stud

Kingman won seven of his eight outings, including the Irish 2,000 Guineas and at Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood.

His only defeat was an unlucky second place in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket in May.

"He's certainly the best colt I've ever trained," said Gosden.

"He's a fabulous-looking horse with a great mind on him and he had this ability to change six gears at once.

"He had a turbo charge that no other horse I've trained has possessed."

The son of Group One winner Invincible Spirit, Kingman made his debut with a remarkable six-length win at Newmarket in June 2013.

Kingman's last race was the Prix Jacques le Marois in Deauville, in which he finished well clear of Anodin.

His retirement means a third meeting with Night of Thunder - the winner of the 2,000 Guineas - at October's Queen Elizabeth II Stakes will not now happen.

He retires having collected £970,834 in prize money and will take up a role at owner Khalid Abdullah's Banstead stud alongside the legendary Frankel, who ended his racing career in October 2012.
